Animal magic!
An appropriate tailpiece for this month has to be recognition for Round the Island Race first timer 'Jack Sparrow’ a dog rescued from a Greek Island in 2009 by Tim Carrington the owner of Lady H. With over 10,000 nautical miles notched up already, this 50-mile westabout course should prove to be little more than a walk in the park for Jack Sparrow!

In February, Jack completed his first 10,000 miles on ‘Lady H’. To celebrate his achievement, we have loaded a new video on to YouTube. If you sailed with Jack you might just be part of it! Click on the 'LADY H on YouTube' link above.

FRENCH CANALS

I know that you are all season sailors and your idea of heaven is fair winds and sun, but I am still a little surprised that I haven’t had more interest shown in the leg back to the UK via the French Canals. This really is a chance to see rural France at its best in early summer. You might not get any sail trim practice but you will certainly have a chance to hone your boat handling skills!

If you have a change of heart and would like to join us anytime between the 1st May and the 16th June for a weekend, a long weekend or even longer, simply drop us a line. Most of the places we will be in or near are fed by high speed trains from Paris so getting to us should be no problem. (all at 35 Euros per person per night – approx £30 per night)
PLEASE NOTE. I am provisionally fully booked from the 9th to the 16th June.

Basically the route comprises the River Rhone to Lyon and Challon. This is a huge stretch of water with a lot of commercial traffic. I think it will be exciting and not a little scary with at least one lock that rises 20 metres.

Next is the very rural stretch from Challon to Saint Mammes where we join the River Seine. This is a 450 kilometre stretch of France at it’s best. Peace at last!

Then we have the Seine stretch via Paris to Conflans which will be a sightseer’s paradise with obviously a few days in Paris.

Then finally the rural stretch with sometimes commercial traffic from Conflans to Calais.

WINTER FLIGHTS
The best deal is with RyanAir from Stanstead to Alghero if flying from the UK. Of course, car parking can be expensive at any airport but there is an alternative. Many B&B establishments in the Stanstead area will not only shuttle you to the airport but will also offer free or reduced cost parking
for a week if you stay just one night. Check out http://www.bedandbreakfasts-uk.co.uk/eastangliaframe-stanstedairport.htm

Recommend susyrosy@gmail.com www.rosemary-house.co.uk Ignore the closed sign on the website. Half an hour from airport but Susy will drop you there and pick you up for a small fee. Free parking. She is a sailor with tales to tell!

Recommend. Brian@thepussywillow.co.uk www.thepussywillow.co.uk Free transfer but parking is £3 per night - or less for a week.. His wife does a mean Thai dinner!

SUMMER FLIGHTS
Both RyanAir and EasyJet are starting to publish their summer schedule, and the earlier you book the cheaper it is. Check them out if you are thinking of joining me when we return to Sardinia in August.
